Ride For The Living is a unique event where participants cycle 55 miles (90 km) from the iconic Auschwitz-Birkenau gate to the Jewish Community Centre of Krakow (JCC Krakow) and participate in four days of educational and community programs.
Ride For The Living honors the Holocaust while celebrating the renewal of contemporary Jewish life in Poland today. JCC Krakow members, staff, volunteers, and friends from around the world will come together to raise awareness and funds for Krakow’s Jewish community.
Ride For The Living is an annual event under the patronage of Chief Rabbi of Poland Michael Schudrich, who in 2017 will lead the event himself. “When Jews around the world consider Poland, they have an obligation to not only remember the past, but also to recognize the work being done to bring as many Jews here in Poland back to the Jewish people.
The Ride For The Living is so important because Jewish life in Poland is flourishing - a miracle considering anti-Semitism in Europe today. Jewish communities around Poland are growing, and while we acknowledge our loss as a people here, we must focus on the future,” explains Rabbi Schudrich.
JCC Krakow will partner with the JCC Association to offer a satellite Ride For The Living program at participating JCCs on Thursday, June 29, concurrent with the Ride in Poland. The Alpert JCC will hold dedicated Ride For The Living spin classes from 9-11am to support Ride participants in Poland while learning about the renewal of Jewish life happening in Krakow and across Poland.
