Mezuzah/Pezuzah

CALLING ALL ARTISTS & CREATIVE TYPES!
Decorate a mezuzah case for our 5th Annual Mezuzah Case Art Exhibit & Silent Auction!

A mezuzah is a scroll containing a Hebrew blessing that is placed inside a cover and is traditionally placed on the outside of doorways of Jewish homes.  Because the scroll is considered the sacred part of the mezuzah, the sky's the limit as far as the design of the case (please no nudity or violations of Jewish law).

This year's theme is Mezuzah/Pezuzah, in keeping with the Purim holiday tradition of wearing masks.  Pez candy dispenser heads make perfect "masks" for our mezuzah cases, and we encourage their use in this year's exibit -- but feel free to create any design you like!

The Alpert JCC will supply a very basic wooden mezuzah case.  You are also welcome to start from scratch and crate your own case.  You can find many traditional symbols and styles commonly used for mezuzah cases online.  You may use any materials you choose as long as the mezuzah case can still be "fixed upon the doorpost" of a home, or on any doorway in a home, and that a scroll can be inserted into the case (do not glue the little cap).
